CSR, Mining and Development in Namibia
This chapter explores relationships between mining, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and development in the case of Namibia. Drawing upon extant literatures, it first conceptualizes relationships between mining, CSR and development. With reference to case examples and in-country fieldwork, this conceptualization is then applied as a framework to critically consider mining’s historic and contemporary development impacts in Namibia and the role of CSR within these. This chapter concludes with reflection on the potential for more “development-oriented” CSR, particularly in mining, offering insights and implications for practitioners, policy makers, and academics.
